Marieke van de Ven (Nederland, 1985)

Marieke van de Ven maakt geluidswandelingen, podcasts, audioverhalen, elektroakoestische composities en field recordings. Ze laat zich inspireren door geluiden uit haar omgeving. Geluiden uit de natuur of de stad; een ratelend tandwiel, een vallend glas. Door goed te luisteren naar deze geluiden onderzoekt ze de muzikaliteit en verhalen die in deze geluiden schuilen. Op het snijvlak van concrete geluiden, tekst, interviews en field recordings verkent Marieke de relatie tussen klank en verhaal. 

Naast autonome composities en audioverhalen werkt Marieke als componist en sound designer samen met choreografen, dansers, schrijvers en theatermakers. Deze multidisciplinaire samenwerkingen waren te zien in binnen- en buitenland, waaronder Engeland, België, Canada en de Verenigde Staten.

Marieke studeerde Compositie en Sound Design op de Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Utrecht. In augustus 2011 behaalde zij haar Bachelor with Honours in Compositie en Sound Design en een Master of Arts met als specialisatie Music and Sound Design. Ook behaalde zij een bachelor Theater- en Filmwetenschappen aan de Universiteit Utrecht.

Marieke van de Ven (Netherlands, 1985)

Inspired by the sounds that surround us, Marieke van de Ven explores the intersection between acoustic and electronic sound. Within the stratification of field recordings, abstract sounds, interviews and text, she investigates the relation between sound and storytelling. Marieke makes podcast, soundwalks, electro acoustic music, and field recordings. Over the last years she established a repertoire of various multidisciplinary collaborations with musicians, choreographers, dancers and writers. Her work has been performed in the Netherlands, Belgium, Canada and the United States.

Marieke studied Composition and Sound Design at the Utrecht School of the Arts. In 2011 she earned a Bachelor with Honours in Composition and Sound Design and a Master of Arts, specialised in Music and Sound Design. In 2007 she earned a Bachelor Theatre- and Film Studies at the Utrecht University.
